Other traditional literature texts focus on teaching literature in the classroom; this text meets the unique needs of librarians working with young adults. Embedded in this genre approach to literature are actions and activities that teachers, librarians, young adults, and students of library science may choose for involving themselves in the literature. Books selected as examples of genres have won awards and are chosen as representative titles of each genre. Fiction is divided into major categories of realistic and fantastic. Modern realistic fiction is further divided into "light" and "serious" fiction. The book includes the important young adult titles that don't always fall into clear-cut genres or types. Some are classics in the field. Others are recent publications.
