Om forfatteren

Ryszard Kapuscinski was born in Poland in 1932. As a foreign correspondent for PAP, the Polish news agency, until 1981 he was an eyewitness to revolutions and civil wars in Africa, Asia and Latin America. His books include The Shadow of the Sun, The Emperor, Shah of Shahs, Another Day of Life and Travels with Herodotus. He won dozens of major literary prizes all over the world, and was made 'journalist of the century' in Poland. He died in January 2007.

– Den rutinerte polske forfatter og antropolog Ryzard Kapuscinski, forteller i dine boken om sine ferder rundt om kring i Afrika. Han besøker et rikt spekter av land, fra Mauretania og Senegal i vest, til Tanzania, Etiopia og Eritrea i vest...og mange flere. Kapusinski trenger inn i den afrikanske sjelen, og sammenligner den med den vestlige holdningen til livet. Både dette og hans beskrivelser av Afrikanernes livsfilosofi som fundamentalt forskjellig fra vår vestlige, er meget godt skrevet, forklart og meget interessant.
Boken er dermed noe mer enn en reise, den er en hyllest til annerledesheten, til det episke og melodiøse livet i Afrika. En meget bra bok.
