En ærlig og god beretning om personlige opplevelser under det vi her i Norge kalte for Stillehavskrigen. Forfatteren var menig infamterisoldat i det amerikanske marineinfanteriet under 2. Verdenskrig. Forfatteren skriver ikke skjønnlitteratur. Det er ikke vanskelig å lese boken for de som behersker engelsk. Forfatteren begynte som journalist før krigen og fortsatte som dette etter krigen, og skriver slik journalister gjør.
