On one hand it pays homage to the old ¿Penny Dreadful¿ novels (aka: kind of cheesy mystery novels), on the other hand it¿s the story of a girl who does things on her own premises in a time where independent women were frowned upon and ostracised. Sally Lockhart is a heroine of my own heart, and Pullman¿s above-average storytelling skills make this a thrilling and moving story. It¿s written for children and young adults, but I'm 22 and I enjoyed this very much. Pullman is an amazing writer, and Sally Lockhart is a protagonist everyone can get behind and cheer for.
