STEPHEN KING is the author of more than seventy books, all of them worldwide bestsellers. His crime thrillers featuring Holly Gibney include Mr Mercedes, winner of the Edgar Award for best novel, and The Outsider, both of which were adapted into successful TV series, as well as Finders Keepers, End of Watch and the title story from If It Bleeds.

Many of his titles are the basis for major motion pictures including IT, Stand By Me (adapted from The Body) and The Shawshank Redemption, which is IMDb's top-rated movie of all time.

King is the recipient of The Sunday Times Award for Literary Excellence 2022, the 2020 Audio Publishers Association Lifetime Achievement Award, the 2018 PEN America Literary Service Award, the 2014 National Medal of Arts, and the 2003 National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters. He lives in Maine, with his wife, novelist Tabitha King.

– Teknologien overvinner menneskeheten og sender ut "The Pulse" via mobiltelefonnettet. Alle som snakker i mobiltelefonen 1. oktober får viruset, hjernene deres rebooter og gjør dem til aggressive, telepatiske flokk-zombier. Tegneserieskaperen Clayton Riddell er i Boston og observerer fenomenet fra sidelinjen, da han for tiden ikke har mobiltelefon. Hans bekymring for hans sønn og ekskone i Maine, gjør at han samler en liten gruppe med "normies" og legger på vei nordover for å finne dem. Selv om jeg er en "constant reader" av Stephen King, finner jeg meg ikke i alt. En av hans sterke sider er karakterskildringene hans, men her er det store mangler. Det blir til stadighet poengtert hovedpersonens savn av sønn og ekskone, men jeg får ikke kjennskap til forholdet han har til dem og hvem de egentlig er. Hans følgesvenner har ingen kjent fortid og blir statister med et kunstig språk. "The Phonies" eller zombiene gjør heller ingen overraskende sprell, og dermed flater boken ut til et gigantisk gjesp. Etter 473 sider står jeg igjen som et spørsmålstegn: Hvem? Hva? Hvorfor? Hvis King legger opp til en fortsettelse, synes jeg det er dårlig å la oss lesere forlates i totalt uvitenhet.
