«Ms. Sebold [has] the ability to capture both the ordinary and the extraordinary, the banal and the horrific, in lyrical, unsentimental prose.»

– I don't usually read autobiographical, real-crime books, but I have a great and terrible love for Alice Sebolds other book, so I gave this one a shot. No regrets at all. Lucky is the authors account of her own rape and rape-trial at eighteen, and how she dealt with life after an act of violence turned her rather naïve world upside down. Her writing is surprisingly honest, to the point and poignant. You can feel her distress, but she never waivers or detaches from her work. The book is well-paced, and nicely balanced between reminiscing and reflecting. She never comes off as neither the helpless victim, or as the invincible superwoman. Shes merely an eighteen year old girl, trying to deal with a bad turn of events, sometimes succeeding magnificently, other times failing spectacularly! This is one of those books where the obvious talent of the writer makes a tragic but still ordinary story extraordinary.
