Om forfatteren

Virgil (Publius Vergilius Maro) (70–19 BC), was the great Roman poet of classical antiquity. He wrote three of the most famous poems in Classical literature: the Eclogues (or Bucolics), the Georgics, and the epic Aeneid. He also appears in Dante's Divine Comedy as a guide to the author through Inferno and Purgatorio.

Most of his published work has focused on English poetry of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and on the English reception of classical (Greek and Roman) literature. His recent publications have included (as author) Conversing with Antiquity: English Poets and the Classics from Shakespeare to Pope (Oxford University Press, 2010) and (as co-General Editor) the five-volume Oxford History of Classical Reception in English Literature (2012–19).
