– This book is about Ruth Cole, and we follow her from childhood. as a child, Ruth finds out that her mother (Marion) is having an affair with the young boy who is hired as a chaffeur for her father (Eddie). Her mother exits from her life. Eddie and Ruth become authors. Ruth is successful, Eddie is not. Eddie cant' help himself, he writes about his affair with Ruths mother in all his books... A typical Irving-book, that fans will love. Quirky characters and an interesting plot.
This novel is full of the things that Irving fan's have come to expect and love. Widow has become one of my favorite Irving novels - sitting next to Garp, Owen Meany and Cider House Rules. This book deserves to be savored like a fine wine.
Widow For One Year
