– Gene Simmons har et enormt ego. Det skinner igjennom overalt hvor han har en finger med i spillet og i hans debutbok Kiss and Make-Up. Han ser oppvekst, berømmelse og karriere fra sitt eget, noenganger oppblåste, ståsted. Simmons forteller utrolige historier fra 30 år med Kiss og damer. det er ingen tvil om at han har opplevd mye og klarer å formidle dette. Man kommer tidvis nært innpå nøkkelen til hans suksess.
De to mest åpenbare svakhetene ødelegger litt av opplevelsen for meg. Simmons får meg ikke til å tro på hvor ubrukelige han mener enkelte av sine kolleger er. Han klarer heller ikke på noe tidspunkt å forklare hva som får han til å tenne musikalsk. Boka er rett og slett uten noen forklaring på Simmons sin musikalske drivkraft, men forklarer mye om interessen for penger, berømmelse og sex. Dette virker underlig i livshistorien til en person som har skrevet låter og stått på en scene i så mange år.
Når dette er sagt, bør en hver Kiss-fan lese Kiss and Make-Up. Et par klyper salt bør medbringes.
