– Det var lenge siden jeg har lest Angela's Ashes, men da jeg var ferdig med 'Tis etter fem dagers lesing tenkte jeg at den slett ikke står tilbake for forgjengeren. McCourts lett pessimistiske og tilsynelatende uunngåelige skjebne kan irritere (må han dra på puben når han vet det går galt?!), men lar du iren være ire, så er det faktisk veldig mye moro i denne boka også. Skildringene er gode, ærlige, og overraskende. Vi møter igjen Frank og hele hans familie. De flytter en etter til New York, og skaper seg en bedre framtid, uten at det hjelper på kommunikasjonen og relasjonene mellom dem. Amerika blir ikke den drømmen de hadde håpet på, for her er det fordommer og stengsler i alle retninger. Det er likevel et interessant portrett av skjebner, krigen, og det amerikanske smeltegryte-samfunnet.
