Man vet at teppene ble laget til den mektige familen Le Viste i Paris rundt 1500-tallet, men har aldri funnet den egentlige historien bak teppenes tilblivelse. Tracy Chevalier har spunnet sin egen historie rundt hva som hendte den gangen. I en dramatisk, vakker og lidenskapelig fortelling avslører hun mysteriet bak teppene.
