Wormold is a vacuum cleaner salesman in a city of power cuts. His adolescent daughter spends his money with a skill that amazes him, so when a mysterious Englishman offers him an extra income he's tempted. In return all he has to do is carry out a little espionage and file a few reports. But when his fake reports start coming true, things suddenly get more complicated and Havana becomes a threatening place.

Jeg begynte på denne boken i den tro at det var en dønn alvorlig spionroman. Så feil kan man ta. Første halvdelen er en enste farse, men boka går så over til å bli svært så alvorlig. Jeg har egentlig aldri kommet over en lignende bok før, der forfatteren rett og slett bytter sjanger halvvis. Det skal virkelig talent til for å få noe sånt til å fungere, og her fungerer det til gangs. Green er, som hovedpersonen i boka, så flink til å levendligjøre sine karakterer at de føles helt virkelige ut. Dette var en bok opplevelse av de sjeldne!

Graham Greene (Author)
Graham Greene was born in 1904. He worked as a journalist and critic, and in 1940 became literary editor of the Spectator. He was later employed by the Foreign Office. As well as his many novels, Graham Greene wrote several collections of short stories, four travel books, six plays, three books of autobiography, two of biography and four books for children. He also wrote hundreds of essays, and film and book reviews. Graham Greene was a member of the Order of Merit and a Companion of Honour. He died in April 1991.

Christopher Hitchens (Introducer)
Christopher Hitchens was an English-born American author, journalist and literary critic. He was a columnist at Vanity Fair, The Atlantic, World Affairs, The Nation, Slate, Free Inquiry, and a variety of other media in a career that spanned more than four decades and made him a prominent public intellectual, and a staple of talk shows and lecture circuits. His books include The Monarchy; Blood, Class, and Nostalgia; No One Left to Lie Toand God Is Not Great. He died in 2011.
